Studios hiring screenwriters for sequels to their tentpoles well before its release is considered standard practice nowadays. Whether or not the first film installment will do well remains to be seen, but Sony truly believes that they have a hit on their hands with The Amazing Spider-Man. So they've hired Star Trek scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to pen the rewrites to James Vanderbilt’s script for the very possible and almost assured sequel.
According to Deadline, Kurtzman and Orci have been brought in to rewrite the script that Vanderbilt has already drafted. The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man has been scheduled for May 2, 2014 [...]
